Senator Sergio De Gregorio, chairman of the Italian Parliamentary delegation to NATO, was honored by Hai-Lung Dai, the Dean of the College of Science and Technology at Temple University in Philadelphia and Vice-Dean George Palladino, during a visit to the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine.
De Gregorio noted that thanks to the success of Italian-American Antonio Giordano, the Director of the Sbarro Institute (www.shro.org), Temple University and the College of Science and Technology has become a reference point for hundreds of Italian students, while the success of the Institute has proved model in cancer research and health policy for Italian researchers.
"I wanted to visit the campus to witness the close ties between Italian and American institutions and to explore the possibility that Sbarro Institute programs funded by the American armed forces can be exported to other countries via NATO," said De Gregorio.
"As the person appointed by the new government to NATO, I look forward to promoting and exploring the potential of the Sbarro Institute model,"said De Gregorio.
Other visiting members of the Italian delegation included Dr. Giuseppe Ioppolo, the Head of the Secretariat, Hon. Gianmarco Pugliese, of the Finance Committee, Dr. Giovanni Lucianelli, the Spokesperson for the Delegation, and the Honorable Amato Berardi, the North American Representative in the Italian Parliament and the Founder of the National Italian-American Political Action Committee (NIAPAC).
Dr. Giordano thanked Dr. Dai for the strong support of the College of Science & Technology for the goals of the Sbarro Institute.
